Set up two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication adds a second check at login: after your password, you enter a 6-digit code from an authenticator app. Remote Timers supports any standard TOTP app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy) and issues ten one-time recovery codes as a backup if you lose your device.

  1. Start setup in security settings

Open your account's security settings and begin 2FA enrollment. You'll see a QR code to scan.

  2. Scan with your authenticator app

Scan the QR code with any TOTP app — the entry appears as Remote Timers. Enter the current 6-digit code to confirm the pairing.

  3. Save your recovery codes

You'll receive ten one-time recovery codes. Store them somewhere safe (a password manager is ideal) — each works exactly once if you can't access your authenticator.

Common questions

I lost my phone — how do I get in?

Sign in with your password, then use one of your recovery codes in place of the authenticator code. Once in, re-enroll 2FA with your new device and generate fresh recovery codes.

Does 2FA affect my timer displays?

No. Public displays never log in, so TVs and guest phones are untouched — 2FA only protects dashboard access.

Do Google sign-in accounts need 2FA too?

Google sign-ins are protected by your Google account's own security, and you can still enable Remote Timers 2FA for an extra layer at the app level.
